Why shouldn't I buy the
equipment and do it myself? You can. I love doing what I do. However, if you are not the technical type, you may not get the results you want. Also the equipment required to do a professional job is expensive. You can spend lots of time and money building a studio, buying equipment, learning how to set up microphones, pre-amps, compressors, limiters and effects units. Then learning how to set up signal input levels, mix, arrange and master your recordings. I have friends that took this route and they admit they suck at it. Now they come to me. Honestly it can take many years to become good at this. The all in one studio's in a box are great, but the equipment is only a small part of the equation. Some of the Beatles greatest music was recorded on a 4 track reel to reel.......by the gifted Sir George Martin. If you are not technical then don't waste your valuable time and money. Instead, invest your time writing, practicing, playing performing and selling your music while visiting interesting places and connecting with cool people. Maybe some people can do it all. But often, those that specialize do it better. My advice: Do what you love and get really good at it. If you're a techno-geek type then go for. Technology is exciting and fun for many people. But if you don't know how to change the time on your car radio, accept it, your not a techno geek. Best of luck no matter what you decide. Just make GREAT MUSIC! John Heartson |
